Radiant Minds Psychology Therapy Telehealth

Types of Therapy

Every person is unique and comes to therapy for different reasons. Radiant Minds Psychology evaluates your own or your family’s specific situation to provide the most suitable type of therapy, taking into account your needs and preferences.

As an Educational and Developmental Psychologist, Radiant Minds takes the approach of looking at difficulties in the context of the milestones in life and human development. The types of psychological therapy offered include:

  • Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)
  • Play therapy
  • Behaviour analysis and therapy
  • Mindfulness and relaxation-based therapy
  • Existential therapy

Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)

CBT is a focused approach used to treat many emotional and behavioural issues. It helps individuals identify unhelpful thoughts and how these are linked to feelings and behaviour. The purpose is to learn new skills and habits that are more helpful and lead to positive life changes. CBT is used for concerns including anxiety, depression and stress.

Behaviour analysis and therapy

Behaviour therapy or behavioural psychology can be helpful in managing a wide range of issues, from managing emotions such as depression and stress/anxiety to parenting challenging behaviours. It can also be used to treat fussy/picky eating, psychosomatic symptoms or sleeping difficulties. Furthermore, behaviour therapy is useful when learning new skills like becoming more organised, adopting a healthier lifestyle, learning to be a more effective student or communicating more assertively. Specific behaviours are identified and actively modified by through various means. The behaviour, not the person, is identified as the problem and ample learning opportunities are provided to help the person change their behaviours.

Mindfulness and relaxation-based therapy

This helps the person to stay in the moment and rather than trying to change what is, it creates a space for the person to accept what is. This therapy may help a person cope better with stress, depression, anger or even chronic pain.

Existential therapy

Existential therapy. This is more a paradigm than a therapeutic technique. The goal is to help make sense of human existence and increase self-awareness and self-understanding. The focus is thus on the client, rather than the symptom. Therapy involves exploring the universal concepts of death, freedom and responsibility, isolation and meaninglessness.
